December 2023 – Food from Japan

japan 2023

I know, there should actually be a stamp for Christmas here. But since it’s almost Easter at the time of writing this post, this stamp will probably work too, since it’s about food. Important for both Easter and Christmas. But why Japan in particular? Because of childhood memories. I once had a Japanese pen pal and she sent me a packet of “sweets” for Easter. At least what the Japanese mean by sweets. They looked similar to the ones on the stamp. Unfortunately, I didn’t like them at all. But stamps with specialities from Japan still fascinate me in particular.

These stamps now are part of a series issued since 2020 entitled “Delicious Japan”, in which specialties from various regions of Japan are depicted. The culinary specialties of each region in terms of drinks, starters and desserts are issued on a miniature sheet of 10 square stamps at 63 yen each. The main dishes are depicted on 10 round stamps of 84 yen each in a stamp booklet. With these stamps, you can embark on a culinary journey through Japan that is probably not over yet. However, I cannot cook the dishes myself.
