Princely treasures – castles and palaces
These three stamps are part of the series “Treasures from the Princely Collections”. They are three gouaches (don’t worry, I had to read up on what they are: goauche is a special form of water-soluble paint) by Ferdinand Runk (1764-1834). Among other things, he was employed as court painter to Johann I of Liechtenstein. Many of his drawings and watercolours were also reproduced in engraving series. All three gouaches show landscapes (parks) that are closely connected with the history of the Princely House of Liechtenstein.
The first (value CHF 0.90) shows a large pond in the park of Eisgrub Castle (today Lednice Castle in the Czech Republic and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape Lednice-Valtice) Lundenburg Castle adorns the second stamp (value CHF 1.10). Like Eisgrub Castle, Lundenburg Castle today in Breclav is still the subject of a legal dispute between the Princely House of Liechtenstein and the Czech Republic. Both castles and the surrounding lands were attributed to the Czech state after the end of the Second World War, and the Princely House of Liechtenstein is still fighting for compensation today. The third value stamp (CHF 1.80) shows the Liechtenstein “Schlösschen am Schüttel im Prater” in Vienna in the background. In 1810, Adam Prince Liechtenstein bought the land and the surrounding grounds and had a summer residence built there and the park shown here laid out.

Village views: Planken
Planken is the smallest municipality in Liechtenstein. The Village Views series depicts special buildings in this municipality. Characteristic of the special stamps printed in sheets of 12 are the black-and-white photographs of the buildings, which are set against a coloured landscape backdrop. The value CHF 0.90 shows the village centre of Planken, the value CHF 1.10 the “Schumacher-Nägele-Haus” built in 1726 (renovated in 2018). Both stamps represent the old wooden houses found in Planken, which are important witnesses of the rural past.

Stamp 4.1 – Blockchain technology from the Principality of Liechtenstein
Philately Liechtenstein is continuing its blockchain series with stamp 4.1 “Equality” (value CHF 9.00). The stamp, which is valid for postage, contains an SQR code and is wet-adhesive. Scanning the SQR code gives access to a website where the stamp’s serial number is listed. Here you can also verify the authenticity of the stamp with the associated app and at the same time anchor it in the data space of the blockchain technology.What is particularly interesting, however, is the puzzle world included in the app. Here you can solve a puzzle and at the same time learn more about the history and rise of the Princely House of Liechtenstein. But not only historical events are shown here, also current ones. 150 years of the Feldkirch-Schaan-Buchs railway line Joint edition Austria – Liechtenstein – Switzerland
The only single-track railway line through the Principality of Liechtenstein was put into operation in 1872. It is just under 9 kilometres long and connects Feldkirch (Austria) with Buchs (Switzerland) via Schaan (Liechtenstein). In Liechtenstein, regional trains stop at Schaan-Vaduz, Forst-Hilti and Nendeln. It is operated jointly by the three countries of Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
To mark the 150th anniversary of this line, the three postal companies have now joined forces and issued a joint special souvenir sheet (“150 years of the Feldkirch-Schaan-Buchs railway line” (value CHF 1.80). The souvenir sheet features three special stamps of the three neighbouring countries with photographs of different train compositions. For Liechtenstein, it is series 4024. In each country, only its own stamp is perforated on the special block and marked with the corresponding nominal value. In addition, the postal companies are organising an anniversary event in Feldkirch on 9 and 10 September 2022, where the stamps will also be cancelled on request.
