September 2022 – A book as a stamp

MarkeYou would hardly believe it. But there are also stamps that read like a book. Even represent a small book.

IllustrationThis “book stamp” appeared in 2010 on the occasion of the 75th Book Week in the Netherlands. The stamp in the form of a 3 by 4 centimeter book has 8 pages. The mini book contains a short story of 500 words. The story was written by the Dutch writer Joost Zwagerman. It describes the thoughts of a director of a museum who has just severely damaged one of the most valuable paintings in the museum’s collection. The stamp is a design concept that has never been seen before in the world of stamps.

aufgeschlagenes BuchThe brand was designed by Richard Hutten. Besides the book shape, the brand is also an example of 3D design. You can see on the brand the suggestion of a third dimension. For this, books were laid out on the floor of the artist’s studio and the perspective image was transformed in the computer into a perfect rectangle on a scale of 1:100.

Buch lesenThe face value of the stamp is 2,20€. With it you could send a 500g letter at that time and thus also a book.
