November 2022 – Easter Bunny steals Christmas tree

Osterhase klaut Weihnachtsbaum

In November, many stamps were again issued with which we can frank our Christmas mail. One can only talk of being spoilt for choice when it comes to naming the most beautiful stamp. This time I have chosen one from Switzerland. It comes from a set of three described by the Swiss Post Office as follows. “Around Christmas, there are countless traditions and rituals. These stamps(sujets) draw our attention to the many preparations for the great feast and surprise us with a subtle wink.”

The stamps depict scenes from animal life shortly before Christmas. On the smallest stamp (CHF 0.90) a mouse wants to post its Christmas mail quickly, on the CHF 1.10 stamp two deer with their antlers are caught in the Christmas decorations and finally on the CHF 1.80 stamp the rabbit is scampering down the hill with a Christmas tree. The stamps were created as part of a design competition and were selected by Swiss Post employees in a vote.

My favourite from this series is the hare. As I said, Swiss Post says it’s a hare scampering out of the forest with the Christmas tree. I, if I took the wink seriously, would say: here the Easter bunny steals the Christmas tree…..
