January 2023 – Fish or Aquaculture?

Aquakultur

The stamp of the month January 2023 is from Kyrgyzstan. At first glance, a simple fish. But at a closer look it is a landscape from above with aquaculture (ponds). The stamp was issued to mark the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022) and is intended to celebrate indigenous non-industrial fisheries.

The Kyrgyz Republic has unique natural and climatic conditions and rich water resources that have led to rapid development of aquaculture in recent years. In small peasant farms, fish farmers create ponds and tanks using the abundant natural resources and raise fish, making an important contribution to food security. This helps to maintain the natural ichthyofaunal diversity in the waters and contributes to the growth of exports of fish products and the creation of new jobs.Aquakultur - Maximumkart
