January 2022 – Oympic games

Estland - 2022In the month of January 2022, I had a hard time choosing which is my stamp of the month. I finally decided on the stamp from Estonia, which has as its theme the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. This is despite the fact that I am not a fan of sports or the Olympics in their current organized form. But I am a fan of beautifully designed stamps that also contain a statement. (You can see the other stamps that also impressed me below).  Without looking at the history of this stamp, it fascinated me. For the following reason: I find the symbolism very beautiful. Out of the old tradition springs something new. This is represented by a ski jumper jumping out of a “typical old Chinese” landscape ink drawing of the Olympic sports venues into the new world, which colorfully and with elements of “modern” art represents new and old Olympic sports.
